So that happened.
Was doing a routine inspection on a property over near the Worthington pool, checking the exterior, and apparently there was a bee situation I wasn’t aware of. Stung right on the neck. Still a bit swollen.
Welcome to spring property management in Ohio.
Why we do inspections
Most people don’t think about their rental property until something goes wrong. That’s not ideal. A 20-minute walkthrough every few months can catch small problems before they become expensive disasters.
Things we’ve caught on recent inspections:
- A gutter about to fall off (would have caused water damage)
- A small roof leak starting that the tenant hadn’t noticed yet
- An AC unit making an unusual noise (got it fixed before summer)
- A tree branch scraping the siding
- And apparently, a bee situation
For owners who self-manage
Even if you don’t use a property manager, please do regular inspections. Spring is a good time: winter is over, you can see what’s going on outside, and you can catch issues before they get worse.
Just watch out for the bees.
Time for an ice pack.
